A WHOIS lookup asks the WHOIS service for the ownership record of a domain. If the registrar publishes the contact details, those details are shown. You can use the MUVCloud WHOIS lookup to see who owns a domain. Lookups are free, and you can run as many as you like.
You can hide or publish the ownership details stored as WHOIS data. Sign in to the domain panel at the company that manages the domain and edit the ownership record. WHOIS privacy is free at MUVCloud.
Need more detail about WHOIS lookups?
WHOIS is a lookup system that shows domain registration details. You can see registration and expiry dates, the registrar, contact details (often hidden), and nameserver (NS) addresses. DNS records such as A, MX, and TXT are not in WHOIS. Those are checked with a DNS query.
RDAP is the newer lookup protocol that replaces WHOIS. It returns results in a standard format, over an encrypted connection. ICANN has removed the WHOIS requirement for most generic extensions. The official source is now RDAP (WHOIS can still be seen on some extensions, such as .com). .tr domains use TRABIS.
To protect personal data, registrars hide the name, address, phone, and email on a public lookup and write REDACTED instead. This follows ICANN’s registration-data policy. To reach the owner, use the registrar’s contact path or, with a legal reason, an ICANN RDRS request.
A domain registration is written to the relevant registration-data systems. Your lookup returns the result from those records (WHOIS or RDAP). The lookup is free. DNS records such as A and MX need a separate DNS tool.
Yes. WHOIS privacy is free on domain registration and transfer at MUVCloud. Personal details are masked on a public lookup. TRABIS rules apply to .tr registrations. What privacy covers can vary by extension.
If the domain is at MUVCloud, update the contact details in the client area under My Domains, then Manage. The old result can still appear until the change propagates. If you cannot find it in the panel, open a support ticket.
Look at the expiry date (Expiry / Registry Expiry) in WHOIS/RDAP. After the term ends there is usually a short renewal window, then redemptionPeriod and pendingDelete. Those codes can appear on the status line. The exact number of days varies by extension. For a definite date, also ask the registrar.
.tr registrations are managed through TRABIS. Personal-data and publication rules differ from generic extensions. A lookup may show registration status, nameservers, and limited contact fields. Not every field is public.
First try the registrar contact shown in the result, or the anonymous contact form. If you have a legal reason, you can request data through ICANN’s RDRS (Registration Data Request Service). That path is for trademark and dispute processes. It is not a standard support channel.
You are not on your own as your projects grow. Our support engineers are ready 24/7, on several channels, whenever you need them.
